Charlotte Dujardin Withdraws from Paris Olympics
British Dressage Star Out of Games
Suspension for Alleged Horse Welfare Violation
British dressage star Charlotte Dujardin, a six-time Olympic medalist, has withdrawn from the Paris Games following an investigation into a video that allegedly shows her violating horse welfare regulations.
Dujardin was expected to compete in the individual equestrian dressage event, where she had won bronze medals at both the Tokyo and Rio de Janeiro Olympics. She had planned to ride a horse named Imhotep.
The International Equestrian Federation (FEI) announced the suspension and investigation on Wednesday. The organization said that the video, which was circulated on social media, appears to show Dujardin using a whip in an excessive or inappropriate manner.
Dujardin has denied any wrongdoing and said she is cooperating fully with the investigation. She has not yet been formally charged with any offense.
The FEI said that the investigation is ongoing and that a decision on any potential sanctions will be made in due course.
