Multiple Assassination Attempts
Prior to the attempted assassination of Donald Trump on Saturday, multiple US presidents have been the targets of assassination attempts.
Four sitting presidents have been assassinated: Abraham Lincoln in 1865, James A. Garfield in 1881, William McKinley in 1901, and John F. Kennedy in 1963. All four were shot.
Of the 45 US presidents since 1789, eight have died in office. In addition to the four assassinations, one president died from a stroke, one from pneumonia, and two from natural causes.
