Win for the Money Earns Trainer Mark Casse a Third Woodbine Mile Victory

A Dominant Victory

Win for the Money, a 4-year-old gelding trained by Mark Casse, captured the 89th running of the Grade 1 Woodbine Mile on Saturday, July 23, 2023, at Woodbine Racetrack in Toronto, Canada. The victory marked Casse's third Woodbine Mile win, following previous triumphs with Lex in 2011 and War of Will in 2019.

A Thrilling Race

Win for the Money, ridden by jockey Patrick Husbands, broke sharply from the gate and settled into second place behind pacesetter March to the Arch. As the field approached the far turn, Husbands sent Win for the Money to the lead, and the gelding responded with a powerful burst of speed. He opened up a clear advantage in the stretch and cruised to a 1 1/2-length victory in a time of 1:32.76.

Casse's Success at Woodbine

Mark Casse is one of the most successful trainers in North America, and he has a particularly strong record at Woodbine Racetrack. In addition to his three Woodbine Mile wins, Casse has also won the Queen's Plate, Canada's most prestigious race, a record six times. His horses have earned more than $100 million in purses at Woodbine, and he is a member of the Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame.

A Well-Deserved Win

Win for the Money's victory in the Woodbine Mile was a well-deserved one. The gelding has been in excellent form all year, and he entered the race off a victory in the Grade 2 Fort Erie Stakes on June 25. With his win in the Woodbine Mile, Win for the Money has now earned over $1 million in his career.
