Tpm 20 Device Driver Issue With Windows 7

TPM 2.0 Device Driver Issue with Windows 7

Windows 7 Users Experience Driver Problems with TPM 2.0 Devices

32-Bit Windows 7 Lacks TPM 2.0 Driver

Microsoft has acknowledged a driver issue affecting users attempting to recover or install Windows 7 on systems equipped with Trusted Platform Module (TPM) 2.0 devices. According to Microsoft, there are no standalone drivers for TPM 2.0 in Windows 7. As a result, users attempting to install Windows 7 32-bit will encounter an unsupported device issue and will not be able to complete the installation.

Workaround for 64-Bit Windows 7

For users running 64-bit Windows 7, a temporary workaround involves installing a specific hotfix (KB4056892). However, this hotfix is only compatible with 64-bit systems and does not address the issue in 32-bit Windows 7.

Limited TPM 2.0 Support in Windows 10

Additionally, users running Windows 10 21H1 may encounter problems with specific TPM 2.0 devices. Microsoft has identified a compatibility issue with certain devices, resulting in potential installation or functionality issues.

Two Types of TPM 2.0

There are two types of TPM 2.0: firmware TPM (fTPM) and discrete TPM (dTPM). Users experiencing issues with fTPM should contact their laptop manufacturer for the appropriate driver. For dTPM issues, Microsoft recommends consulting with the device manufacturer.
