Windows Dhcp Vendor Class Identifier Update

Windows DHCP Vendor Class Identifier Update

Microsoft, Android Devices Get New Identifiers

Changes Impact DHCP Server Configuration and Troubleshooting

WEB, MSFT 5.0, DHCP, Android 13, Microsoft, Windows

The Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) has updated the Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) vendor class identifier for Windows and Android devices. This change affects DHCP server configuration and troubleshooting, and network administrators need to be aware of the new identifiers to ensure proper network operation.

The traditional Client Vendor Name for Windows-based devices has been updated from "MSFT 5.0" to "MSFT 5.0 or MSFT 6.0". This change is due to the introduction of new Windows versions that are using different DHCP vendor class identifiers.

Additionally, the vendor class identifier for Android devices has been updated to "android-dhcp-13" for devices running Android 13. This change helps to identify Android devices on the network and allows DHCP servers to provide the appropriate configuration settings.

Network administrators should be aware of these changes and update their DHCP server configurations accordingly. Failure to do so may result in issues with device connectivity and network performance.
